Why we're building GoodMetrics

Remember what it was like to use Universal Analytics?

  • Real-time reporting was actually real-time
  • Useful reports were a click away
  • And conversion tracking was easy

Then in typical Google fashion, they decided to ruin a good thing with the GA4 "upgrade."

Suddenly, data was severely delayed, useful reports vanished, the UI was clunky, and privacy concerns still remained.

So like many people, we decided to look around for alternatives.

As it turns out, there were many privacy-focused alternatives that popped up over the past few years. However, we found that these privacy-focused solutions were a little too basic:

  • Most of them were just a single page dashboard
  • Conversion tracking and funnel analysis was limited at best
  • They didn't segment new vs. returning visitors
  • And many useful features were missing

All in all, we simply couldn't measure the performance of our website in the way that we could using Universal Analytics.

So we started to ask ourselves:

What if we built a website analytics product that respected user privacy, but still enabled website owners to properly measure the performance of their website and their content?

And with that, the idea for GoodMetrics was born.
